YCBN Student Career & Leadership Academy
Discover Your Path. Build Your Skills. Lead Your Future.

Programme pillars, from discovery to opportunities
Programme Overview
Most students finish secondary school and university with very little practical information about careers, no mentor, and no idea how to turn their talents into a pathway. The Academy closes that gap with structured weekly lessons, real professionals, practical challenges and a clear progression from discovering to leading.
Who it is for
Students aged approximately 13–25: secondary school learners, senior and upper-secondary students, TVET and early tertiary learners, and young people moving into work.
The student promise
“Know your career. Build your skills. Become a leader.” Every week a student gets one concrete step forward, and every level ends in something they can show — a certificate, a project or an award.
The Four Programme Pillars
Everything in the Academy sits under four pillars. A student can start with one and move through all of them, and each pillar is available across the membership tiers below.
1. Career Discovery
Helping students answer the question “what am I actually good at, and what could I do with it?”
- Career exploration across a wide range of occupations
- Subject and course choices that match real pathways
- Education pathways: secondary, TVET, university and gap-year options
- Employability skills: CVs, interviews, applications and professional communication
- Entrepreneurship and starting a business
- Digital careers and the skills the digital economy needs
2. Leadership Academy
Turning capable students into confident, ethical young leaders who can organise and represent others.
- Self-leadership: discipline, time management and goal setting
- Communication and public speaking
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Decision-making and problem-solving
- Conflict management and handling peer pressure
- Ethics, integrity and student leadership
3. Mentorship Hub
Putting students in front of people who have already done the job they want to do.
- One-to-one professional mentor sessions
- Group mentorship with a small peer cohort
- Open career conversations with practising professionals
- Personal-development challenges between sessions
- Appropriate safeguarding in all mentor interactions
- Parental or guardian consent required for minors
4. Opportunities Hub
The part students care about most — a curated, verified feed of things they can actually apply for.
- Scholarships, bursaries and education funding
- Competitions, academic challenges and student awards
- Internship and apprenticeship placements
- Volunteering and community service
- Youth leadership programmes and networks
- Entrepreneurship funding and incubation opportunities

The Weekly Timetable
Every day has a purpose. The structure is deliberately light so it fits around school and homework — one focused activity a day, not a full extra timetable.
| Day | Session | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Career Monday | A short career lesson — one career, one pathway, one thing to think about. |
| Tuesday | Skills Tuesday | Communication, digital skills, CV writing, entrepreneurship and related practical skills. |
| Wednesday | Leadership Challenge | A practical weekly challenge — something to actually do, not just read. |
| Thursday | Mentor Thursday | A 45–60 minute virtual session with a practising professional. |
| Friday | Opportunity Friday | Scholarships, competitions, internships and youth opportunities worth applying for. |
| Saturday | Academy Live | A 60–90 minute virtual masterclass with a featured guest or mentor. |
| Sunday | Reflection | Assignment and reflection on the week, plus recognition of top participants. |
Live session times and the weekly schedule are communicated to members in the Academy community each week.
The Student Journey
Every student moves through the same clear pathway, so they always know what comes next and what they are working towards.
Register
The student or parent completes the registration form and selects a membership tier.
Baseline Assessment
A Career & Leadership baseline assessment establishes where the student is starting from.
Level 1: Discover
Career exploration, subject and course choices, and finding the direction that fits.
Level 2: Develop
Building the practical skills — communication, CVs, digital skills, teamwork and entrepreneurship.
Level 3: Lead
Leading others — organising, speaking publicly, deciding, solving problems and handling conflict.
Final Practical Project
A real project that proves the student can apply what they have learned.
Certificate & Alumni Network
Graduating students receive their YCBN certificate and join the YCBN Alumni Network — the continuing community of former Academy students, ambassadors and young leaders.
Certificates & Awards
Students leave the Academy with recognised proof of what they have done — valuable on a CV, a scholarship application or an interview.
YCBN Career & Leadership Foundation Certificate
Awarded on completion of Level 1 — the foundation stage of the Academy journey.
YCBN Student Leadership Certificate
Awarded on completion of the leadership curriculum and its practical assignment.
YCBN Career Readiness Certificate
Awarded on completion of the career-readiness programme of study.
YCBN Young Leader Award
Our highest recognition, for exceptional leadership, performance and contribution to the community — not simply attendance.

On a dedicated learning platform: YCBN will consider building a dedicated learning platform only after the Academy demonstrates sustained demand and a substantial active membership base. In Year 1 the priority is proving the model and the delivery quality.
The School Ambassador Model
Each partner school can nominate 2–5 YCBN Career & Leadership Ambassadors. This is how we grow inside schools without needing staff time on the ground.
Ambassadors per partner school
What ambassadors do
Ambassadors are trained virtually by YCBN, so there is no cost to the school and minimal cost to us. In return they become the Academy's presence in their school.
Mobilise and encourage students to join
Share opportunities with their school community
Coordinate weekly challenges in the school
Identify student needs and barriers to participation
Support school-based engagement and events
Report participation and feedback to YCBN
Are you a school leader, teacher or head of student affairs? We would like to partner with you.
